Description
Dactylorhiza – Hardy Orchid
Dactylorhiza are deciduous tuberous perennials with lance-shaped leaves sometimes spotted with purple, and dense terminal racemes of purple, pink or white flowers. Clump forming, Height up to 60-100cm.
My first hardy orchid appeared by chance in a pot, after which it has seeded itself around the garden.
A much larger, deep purple hardy Dactylorhiza was subsequently given by a friend.
The seedings I’ve collected are from both types of orchid.
Hardy terrestrial orchids make wonderful displays in the garden.
They are a must for any wildflower meadow and can also be very successfully grown in flower borders, rockeries, raised beds, bog gardens, and in large outdoor containers or pots.
Unheated well-ventilated greenhouses are also ideal, especially for raising young plants.
Suplied in 9cm pots.
