It can quite happily be planted straight into your garden. It’s a tough plant.

No need to prune this variety, but suggest that you give it a light prune straight after it has finished flowering to suit, i.e. if it gets too big for its space. It flowers on the old wood, i.e. growth it has made the previous year, so don’t prune it too hard too late in the year or it won’t flower much the following spring. Other than that, this variety is trouble-free and will do its thing without much fuss.  You can feed it if you like during the growing season, any general purpose feed, tomato feed, manure, etc. Add bonemeal, manure, a bit of good compost or any other long-term food to the planting hole to get it off to a good start.

A seedling of C. montana ‘Rubens’ found by garden designer, John Williams, growing in his garden.

Named by Mr. Williams for two reasons, Warwickshire after his home county and Rose after his mother.
