Description
Clematis montana ‘Grandiflora’
Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit (AGM)
A very good montana variety, extremely vigorous, easy and trouble free.
One of few montanas that are actually white and perfumed. These cuttings are taken from a grandiflora growing in my friend Margaret’s garden. It’s absolutely the real McCoy, with the most fantastic scent on a warm day.
It produces its clear, dense white flowers with yellow anthers from late spring to early summer. The buds are tinged dark red/purple at the base.
Its very hardy nature makes it perfect for exposed sites. Like all early-flowering clematis, it requires little pruning other than the removal of any dead or damaged growth after flowering.
Useful for quickly covering large supports such as pergolas or walls.
