Description

Common name: Mouse-tailed arum, Mouse plant, Mouse tail plant

The mouse plant is a clump forming, hardy herbaceous woodland perennial that flowers in April, amusing adults as well as children with its whimsical flowers.

Maroon and white flowers with tail-like tips hide under the leaves, resembling the back ends of mice. The flowers are long-lasting for indoor arrangements.

Mouse plant’s glossy spade-shaped leaves make a low groundcover until going dormant. Mouse plant will grow best in a rich well-drained soil. Choose a location with light to open shade or morning sun but avoid the hot afternoon sun. This small plant will go dormant (i.e. disappear) in early to midsummer to survive dry weather, but it will return next year undamaged.

The early foliage makes a nice foil for spring-flowering woodland bulbs.

If you like, you will be able to split the contents of the pot to make more plants. Each leaf will have it’s own root system when you tip the plant out of the pot.

Height: 15cm
Spread: 40cm
Position: Shade loving plant
Soil: Prefers moist but well-drained soil
