Description
‘Ruby Port’ is an heirloom columbine cultivar that dates back to the 1600s.
Noted for its spurless, dark maroon red, fully double flowers that bloom in late spring/early summer.
Features biternate, almost fern-like, leaves that in shape are somewhat suggestive of meadow rue (Thalictrum).
Popular for its late spring and early summer burgundy flowers, ‘Ruby Port’ makes an effective contrast with white flowering plants.
Suitable for all garden borders, cottage gardens, open shade gardens, woodland gardens or naturalized areas.
It likes moist but free-draining soil in sun or partial shade where it will self-seed prolifically.
This is a bushy, clump-forming herbaceous perennial that typically grows in a mound to 24-36” (60-75cm) tall, spread 18” (45cm).
